NO COMMON STAND ON TURKISH BLOCKADE AGAINST ARMENIA IN CE

In response to the inquiry submitted by the Armenian party a year ago the ministerial delegates of the Council of Europe passed a document on the Turkish blockade of Armenia. As reported by the press service of the Armenian foreign ministry, the document notes that the European delegates did not manage to work out a common stand on the issue. Nevertheless, they called all interested parties to work for such developments in the region, which will establish neighborly relations between all of the countries. As permanent representative of Armenia in the CE, ambassador Christian Ter-Stepanian noted, just the mentioning of the Turkish blockade against Armenia caused Turkish delegation’s active opposition, which hindered working out a clear position on the issue. The ambassador also noted that Turkey continued the economic blockade of Armenia, in particular preventing it from using overland transport communications. Ankara’s such policy and absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries, in his words, is contrary to the CE fundamental principles. The presence of impediments for free movement of people and commodity circulation in the end negatively tells on the development of the entire region, C.Ter-Stepanian emphasized.
