Kosovo – Important in Context of Practical Interests of Post Soviet Space

The decisions on Kosovo should be universal. This is the opinion of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the threshold of the sitting of the contact group on Kosovo to be held in London with the participation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. “This is an extremely important issue for us not only from the viewpoint of jus gentium but also proceeding from the practical interests of the post soviet space. All the variants elaborated by the contact group should bear universal nature. Not all the conflicts are settled in the post soviet space. We cannot apply various principles following a single path,” Vladimir Putin stated at a conference with government members. “Some our partners tried to introduce into the document a thesis that Kosovo is a unique case and does not create precedents… We all know where this originality can lead,” he noted.

To note, earlier U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Rosemary di Carlo said, “We consider that the situation in Kosovo and Kosovo itself as a phenomenon are unique. The situation in Kosovo is the consequence of forced collapse of Yugoslavia. The international community applied measures to stabilize the situation because Milosevic violated the UN Security Council №1244 Resolution. As for the settlement of other frozen conflicts with the Kosovo model, the UN resolution has not been applied to them,” reported IA Regnum.
