A conference on the issues of CIS 7 poorest countries ended in Lucerne with a call on donor organizations to search for opportunities to increase the financial aid being gratis provided to the “CIS-7 Initiative” participant countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Addressing the close of the conference on behalf of four sponsor organizations (the IMF, WB, EBRD and the Asian Bank for Development), WB managing director Shengman Zhang said that donor assistance in the form of financing on the basis of exceptionally preferential terms, as well as the relief of the debt burden would bring have positive outcomes only in combination with effective reforms. The forum, in which representatives of the international donor community and the CIS-7 governments and public participated, aimed at expanding and deepening the discussions on a wide range of economic and social issues, which the seven countries need to solve to attain the Millenium Development Goals. Let us note that “CIS-7 Initiative” was formed a year ago to solve problems connected with serious economic difficulties, increase of poverty and debt rapid growth in many CIS countries since their independence in early 90s.
