«Latest statements of Azeri President and his influence at the international arena give hope for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh issue in favor of Azerbaijan. However, superpowers’ struggle for Eurasia does not allow being optimistic over the outcomes of the matter. Thus all political parties should support the government in struggle for liberation of the occupied territories,» stated Azeri National Congress Party (NCP) chair Ikhtiyar Shirin. In his words, parties should struggle not for places in the parliament, but «liberation of Karabakh.» The NCP has arranged a project «regarding liberation of occupied territories and determination of the NK status that was presented to the president’s administration and the MFA of Azerbaijan.» The project «plans withdrawal of Armenia’s Armed Forces 50 km far inland, as well as deployment of OSCE multi-national peacekeepers between Armenia and NK.» «The Azeris resettled in compliance with the project should be secured by OSCE multi-national peacekeeping forces and local police.» The Party chairman believes «Armenians, who in their time lived in that territory, can be resettled along with Azeris.» In Shirin’s opinion, «Azeri authorities should provide for autonomy of NK.» «However, it is important to preserve the ethnic and cultural character. In 6 months after approval of the Karabakh autonomy residents of that territory should form local self-government bodies. The project also provides for holding a referendum. The UN Security Council should guarantee the agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia,» he said.
