Bird Flu Found in Azerbaijan

Azeri veterinary services confirmed the existence of H5N1 virus in some dead birds on the Caspian coast. The results of the analysis were sent to London for further investigation. “Virus H5N1” was found in some of them,” he said. The analysis was made by Weybridge laboratory in London. According to Azerbaijani Health Ministry’s Spokesman Samay Mamedov, no cases of bird flu were registered among the population. Measures of sanitary security were immediately taken in the republic. The border control was strengthened. If the virus is found among the population quarantine may be announced in nurseries and schools. “Brigades of sanitary inspectors will be sent to regions to take prophylactic measures,” the Health Ministry informed.
