EU Commissioner Noted Need for Soonest Settlement of Karabakh Issue

Azeri FM Elmar Mammadyarov and EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner discussed settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict at a meeting Thursday. In Mammadyarov’s words, the Azeri party will hold the next round of consultations with EU experts over the neighborhood concept in Brussels March 7. In Ferrero-Waldner’s words, the EU intends to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan in 2006 and speed-up the talks for them to finish soon. At that Ferrero-Waldner underscored that the cooperation will be inefficient, if it does not comprise the entire region. It is necessary to attain settlement of the NK conflict as soon as possible. We support the talks within the OSCE MG, however the most important step should be made by parties to conflict themselves,” said Benita Ferrero-Waldner, reported Day.az.
