February 20 Armenian Culture Monuments Subject to Azerbaijan Aggression round table was held in the conference hall of the Institute of Biochemical Physics after Emanuel of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported the Yerkramas newspaper of Armenians of Russia. The panel was held to draw attention of the society to the issue of destruction of Armenian spiritual historical values in Azerbaijan to prevent possible repeated actions. The Russian-Armenian Commonwealth, International Academy of Sciences for National Security Issues and World Peacemaking Organization organized the event. Anti-Armenian policy of official Baku, drawing attention of the international community to prevent the cultural genocide, being committed by Azerbaijan, people’s diplomacy in solving the conflict and the role of international and Russian NGOs in reducing the tension in the region were discussed during it.
Participants of the round table adopted a statement, which in part says, “Humanity witnessed another vandalism act of the Azeri authorities in town of Julfa (Old Jugha), Nakhichevan in 21st century. From the first day of its establishment, Azerbaijan worked for Armenians to leave Artsakh, Nakhichevan and Gandzak, to exterminate Armenian population of Baku and other regions. Azerbaijan today makes every effort at the state level to finally destroy traces of Armenian culture and history in Armenian territories under its control. Destruction of Armenian Khachkars in Julfa again proves that neither Artsakh, nor another region populated by Armenians cannot be part of Azerbaijan. Latest unacceptable actions not only trample human dignity, but also run counter to conventional norms – preservation of the cultural legacy of peoples. According to the UN Convention of 1948 this is an act of genocide. Khachkars at Julfa cemetery are not only part of Armenian, but also common human heritage. By denouncing Azerbaijan’s actions of destroying Khachkars at the Armenian cemetery in Julfa, we urge Azeri authorities to stop the vandalism. We protest against the criminal policy of the Azeri leaders and we address the international community, demanding to express its attitude to the criminal policy of Azerbaijan.”
