Armenian grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian (USA) scored 6,5 points out of 9 to take the first prize at the World Open 2013 held in Arlington, USA.
Nine other grandmasters showed the same results, with the Armageddon play-off between Varuzhan Akobian and Yuniesky Quesada (Cuba) – the two players with the best tie-break results – deciding the winner.
The Armenian grandmaster, playing with black pieces, ended the game in a draw to become the winner of the World Open.
