Azeri APA news agency spread information that former EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie “remonstrated to British member of the European Parliament, who was one of the initiators of the adoption of resolution on Azerbaijan condemning the destruction of the Armenian monuments in Old Djulfa in Nakhichevan. According to Azerbaijani Ambassador to the EU Arif Mamedov, during the hearings the PACE rapporteur for the South Caucasus “highlighted the fact of the seizure of the Azeri territories by Armenia, what happens extremely rarely in PACE. Former EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie noted that the culture of Caucasian Albania has existed in Azerbaijan for a long time and the Albanian Church functioned along with the Georgian and Armenian Churches and there are plenty of Albanian monuments in the region.”
In a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter political scientist Stepan Grigoryan noted that one should not believe Azeri media strongly. “Heikki Talvitie might have said something about the demolition of the Armenian monuments, but his words could hardly be so sharp. Usually diplomats do not resort to such expressions,” Grigoryan said.
