EU Troika to Visit South Caucasus April 19-21

The European Union Troika intends to pay a visit to the South Caucasian states April 19-21, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belgium Arif Mamedov informed. The delegation will include the representative of Austria presiding in the EU, the European Commission and possibly EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana. Calling Javier Solana “Azerbaijan’s friend” Mamedov marked his role for the development of ties with the European Union.
During the visit the discussion of the EU-Azerbaijan Action Plan is expected. “If the Action Plan is coordinated by April, the stage of the procedure of ratification by the EU members will be announced,” the Ambassador said. The supply of energy sources will be also included into the agenda. “I think the EU will take interest in energy issues this year. They pay great attention to the construction of the Transcaspian pipeline. Over the problems with energy sources that emerged this winter the EU member-state started thinking of alternative routes and our Caspian region is in the limelight of the European Commission President and EU Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner,” Mamedov said, reported Trend.
