GEORGIA AGAINST ARMENIA’S REGIONAL ISOLATION IN CASE OF NATO ENLARGEMENT TO CAUCASUS, GEORGIAN POLITICIAN STATED

If Armenia wishes to direct its efforts to integration with the Western community, its neighbors’ membership in NATO will become an exclusive opportunity on that way. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, head of the service of international relations of the Georgian state department Shalva Pichkhadze stated it when commenting on the expedience of Georgia’s accession to NATO. In his words, the North Atlantic Alliance should be extremely interested in access opportunities to the Caspian energy resources. Thus, involvement of Azerbaijan into the organization fits the interests of the Alliance. At the same time the politician said that Georgia was flatly against Armenia’s isolation in the South Caucasian region. Thereupon, in his words, the military exercises to be held within NATO “Partnership for Peace” program will become “a good example” of cooperation.
