INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR BLACK SEA STUDIES INTENDS TO OPEN CENTER FOR CONTRIBUTION TO SCIENCE, CULTURE AND EDUCATION IN ARMENIA

The International Center for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) intends to open a center for contribution to the development of science, culture and education in Armenia. ICBSS secretary general Yannis Papanikolau stated it at the meeting with Armenian parliament speaker Armen Khachatrian in Yerevan. In his words, such specialized centers already operate in Salonika and Kiev – for studying the problems of seismology and drinking water respectively. Yannis Papanikolau also noted that besides the cooperation in the scientific, cultural and educational fields, the ICBSS developed cooperation in the sphere of securing the Black Sea Economic Cooperation member states, which contributed to more effective struggle against terrorism, trafficking and drug business. In this respect the meeting participants specially emphasized the role of the parliaments in the formation of relevant legislative framework. In the course of the meeting it was also noted that the Romanian President Ion Iliescu had come out with a proposal to expand the European Union borders to the South Caucasus and crate a working group for that purpose, on which the Armenian National Assembly speaker was expected to serve.
