A high-level seminar for the National Statistical Institutions of Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian (EECCA) countries on statistical issues is taking place in Riga from June 1-3, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
The seminar has been organised by Eurostat on an annual basis since 2010, and is being held this year as part of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
This year the seminar is dedicated to quality issues, including the results of the quality review of the European Statistical System.
Representatives from Eurostat will focus on the role of the national statistical system, its legal and institutional framework, and requirements for authorities responsible for collecting official statistics.
Special attention will be paid to the concept of "official statistics", with discussions on which data are to be considered as official statistics.
