Armenian teams win European Chess Championship round 6

The 6th round of European Team Championship was held in Iceland's capital Reykjavik following a one-day break.

At the championship, Armenia men’s team gained a 2.5 -1.5 win over Germany, while the women's team beat Spain with the same score, Chess Federation of Armenia reports.

Men’s teams standings after the 6th round: Russia – 11 points; France – 10; Azerbaijan – 9, followed by Hungary, Ukraine, Spain, Armenia, Poland and Latvia follow with 8 points each.

In the 5th round, the men’s team ended the game with Italy in a draw, while the women lost to Serbia 1-3.

In the 4th round, Armenian men’s and women’s teams played against those of England; the men’s game ended in a 2-2 draw, while Armenian women gained a 3-1 win.

Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian beat the reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the 3rd round of European Team Chess Championship helping his team to a 2.5 – 1.5 victory over Norway.

At the Reykjavik-hosted championship, the Armenian team – Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian, Sergei Movsesian and Hrant Melkumyan – gained a 4-0 victory over Iceland, further losing 1.5-2.5 to France in the first two rounds.
