OSCE rep rules out peacekeeping mission in Karabakh

The issue of deploying a peacekeeping mission in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone is not on the agenda, Sputnik cited Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Alexander Lukashevich as saying.

"There was a concept of a peacekeeping operation, approved back in the 1990s. But the plan referred to the final stage of the settlement; the issue is not on the agenda since there is no settlement," Lukashevich said.

"There is an OSCE working group which has been adapting a scheme of potential peacekeeping operation, but its outcome is seen only on draft maps."

The peacekeeping operation could take place only after the settlement, which in turn may happen only in the long term, Lukashevich noted.
