Armenia and Russia have to settle the issue of reestablishment of railway communication through Abkhaz territory with Georgian leadership in more dynamic way. Armenian-Russia interparliamentary commission on cooperation co-chair, the International union of industrialists chair Nikolay Rijkov has stated that in Yerevan. According to him, without settling transport issues, it would be hardly possible to hope for more active development of the Russia-Armenia economic relations, especially the ones related to the transfer of strategic loads. To reestablish 80-km part of the railway line, three months is necessary, Rijkov reported. At that he noted that Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze does not wish to open that line as he uses that as a “political key factor in the relations with Abkhazia”. “Because of that, we have to introduce a new roundabout line through Novorosijsk to Poti or Batumi and again by the Georgian way to Yerevan”, he noted. There is another way of crossing Astrakhan-Iran-Armenia that is now at the stage of development.
