IN KUBAN ELECTION CAMPAIGN STARTED WITH ANTI-ARMENIAN STATEMENTS

Recent Anti-Armenian statements in the Krasnodar Territory in Russia have resulted in the Armenian community’s rallying at the coming elections for the local Legislative Assembly. As the newspaper of Armenians in South Russia «Yerkramas» states, regional sociological center Director Nikolay Petropavlovski who is thought to be the main political technologist of the regional authorities at the coming elections has stated that at the recent round table dedicated to the issues of imported technologies in Krasnodar. He forecast the community’s consolidated voting that makes the chances of candidates with the Armenian background to win in some regions quite possible. Sociologist noted Armenians are actively getting ready for the elections and this is understandable – they are the second largest national group in the Territory and control about 30% of Kuban’s economy. At that, Petropavlovsky called the attention of the meeting participants to that fact that the future regional parliament will «plot the most expencive thing in Kuban – the land». So, he stated «it will be easy to stir up feelings in any district where the Armenians are promoted as 16 interested parties will participate at the coming elections». Especially, the director of the regional sociological center noted, «none of the election campaign is taking place with a strict observance of the law».
