If nothing extraordinary happens, Armenia will become full member of the World Trade Organization before the turn of the year. Advisor of the Armenian-European Policy and Legal Advice Center under the OSCE representation in Armenia Aleksey Sekaryov stated it. In his words, Armenia has fulfilled all WTO requirements and is completely ready to join the organization, which will positively tell on the economy development and will let increase the country’s foreign trade turnover. As US Agency for International Development officer Michael Visan reported in his turn, in the course of the final discussion of the question of Armenia’s membership in WTO, the American representative intends to raise the question of protection of intellectual property in Armenia. One should not expect immediate profits from accession into the WTO, he stated, adding that in the course of time it will undoubtedly bear fruits. “Small countries, which are not members of the WTO, are left out of the big economic policy and accession into that structure is extremely important for them,” – Visan said.
