NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN ARMENIA AND IRAN ON BUILDING KAJARAN TUNNEL TO START BEFORE END OF SEPTEMBER

Before the end of September Iranian experts will arrive in Armenia to hold negotiations on building the Kajaran tunnel, which will secure all-year-round motor communication between Armenia and Iran. Armenian minister of transport and communication Andranik Manukian reported it. In his words, Armenia and Iran equally finance the project works, and 85% of the construction works will be financed by the Iranian side, and the rest 15% – by the Armenian party. Let us note that the project is estimated to cost 45 million US dollars. The tunnel will run at a height of 2070 meters under Meghri mountain pass, which is situated 20 kilometers to the north of the Armenian-Iranian border.
