Minister of transport and communications of Georgia Merab Adeishvili stated that Georgia can adequately respond to Russia, “which has been creating problems for Georgian air companies providing flights to Moscow, by allowing their flights only at night for several days.” Adeishvili said, in case such “serious and fundamental” measures are taken, it could come to conflict with Armenian air companies, for whom the air space for flying to Russia would be blocked. In this regard he expressed hope that before the end of the week the conflict situation with Russia would be settled via negotiations. The minister reported that he had contacted his Russian counterpart Sergey Frank, who told that the temporary ban on flights of Georgian air companies in the daytime was conditioned by the Russian military’s demands, who are holding military training in the Northern Caucasus. M.Adeishvili did not rule out the possibility of the ban being prolonged up to October 1, but Georgia is not going to bear with such raising of the question. In his words, the Russian party’s position has also political implication and is intended to cause public displeasure. The minister stressed there were no obstacles for the flights of the airplanes of Russian companies.
