OPENING OF ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER BENEFICIAL FOR BOTH STATES, ARMENIAN PREMIER STATED

Opening of the Armenia-Turkish border is beneficial for both states. RA Premier Andranik Markarian has stated that. According to him, diplomatic and economic relations with Turkey should also be established, “but, they should be based on the mutual interest in bilateral discussion and striving for the ways for settlement of the current issues and disagreements and not on the basis of preconditions”. Settlement and development of relations between the two states of the region will increase the investment interest in the economy of the South Caucasus where global regional projects will be realized, the Premier noted. It should be noted, according to the evaluations of a number of European experts, Armenia’s annual loss because of Turkey’s blockade is about $500 million. According to the report of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, Armenia will double the export and increase the trade deficit in half if the economic blockade against it is lifted.
