AMERICAN ARMENIANS URGE US LEADERSHIP NOT TO BUILD RELATIONS WITH TURKEY ON DISTORTION OF HISTORY

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has called on US deputy defense minister Paul Wolfowitz to refuse his approving statements regarding the attitude of the official Ankara towards the minority groups residing in Turkey. According to the ANCA report, during his visit to Turkey, Wolfowitz stated, “I was impressed with Turkey’s attitude to the ethnic minorities of the country”. The letter to the US deputy defense minister states the 1915 Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey, deportation of Greeks and invasion to Cyprus, activities against Kurd people as well as serous restrictions regarding Armenian, Greek and other Christian communities of Turkey are ignored with that statement. The ANCA stresses the US relations with Turkey must not be built on the distortion of the history for political expediency.
