Despite the agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire, Azerbaijani Armed Forces struck the city of Martuni in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) with rockets overnight, as a result of which one civilian died and many residential houses were damaged, the Karabakh infocenter reported Sunday, October 11.
Besides, the Azerbaijani armed forces are launching assaults in the south of the contact line, using armored vehicles and missiles, Armenian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said later on Sunday.
According to her, the Karabakh Defense Army troops are resolutely suppressing all enemy operations. The Azerbaijani forces had earlier initiated an offensive in the northeast of the Karabakh line of contact, which Karabakh troops successfully thwarted too, destroying 2 armored fighting vehicles and inflicting major personnel losses to the Azeri forces.
Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages, as well as the iconic Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi. Before a humanitarian ceasefire could begin on October 10, Azerbaijan launched new offensives and struck settlements both in Karabakh and Armenia.
