Russian diplomat and jurist of Armenian descent has been elected as Vice-President of the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Gevorgian's election to such an honorable post in the main judicial body of the UN is a confirmation of his authority in the Court and the prestige of the Russian international legal school in general," the statement reads.
"We are convinced that he will make an important contribution to ensuring the effective work of the International Court of Justice, aimed at implementing the principle of the peaceful settlement of disputes."
Gevorgian has been a member of the Court since February 2015.
