Karabakh Security Council chief vows to create more mobile, efficient army

The Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Vitaly Balasanyan has weighed in on media reports about the alleged dissolution of the Defense Army on Artsakh, maintaining that the country will have more mobile, efficient armed forces.

"Let no one think that Artsakh will not have an Army," Balasanyan said in an interview with Karabakh's Public TV. The Secretary of the Security Council revealed that army recruitment on contractual basis is already underway.

According to him, structural changes in the Defense Army should result in the formation of a more efficient armed forces, where he said each soldier is a fighter. Balasanyan also said that cooperation with the Armed Forces of Armenia is and will always be ongoing.

"We will never leave Artsakh in anyone's arms. Artsakh will always be Armenian, it will never be part of Azerbaijan," Blasanyan added.

Balasanyan had earlier too commented on rumors about the disbandment of the Artsakh Defense Army and revealed that the country is now working on the formation of professional military units on contractual basis.
