Putin, Aliyev discuss Karabakh over the phone

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday, April 1 to discuss the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to a press release posted by the Kremlin, the two President "noted with satisfaction" that the situation in the region is generally stable, and the ceasefire is holding.

Putin and Aliyev also weighed in on the prospects of opening and mending road communications in South Caucasus.

Among new communications being discussed in the South Caucasus are possible road and rail routes through the territory of Azerbaijan to connect Armenia to Russia. New routes could also connect the Azerbaijani Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan with the rest of the country, for which a road is set to be built through the territory of Armenia.
