UNION OF ARMENIANS OF RUSSIA PLANS TO APPEAL TO RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT TO TAKE MEASURES FOR EXTREMISM PREVENTION

The union of Armenians of Russia together with the RF commissioner on human rights plans to appeal to the Russian authorities to take measures against the actions of extremism towards the representatives of other nationalities residing in Russia. The Union of Armenians of Russia Executive committee chairman Gegam Khalatian has stated that. According to him, the Armenian Diaspora is very alarmed at increase of the inter-ethnic conflicts in Russia as a result of which violence is used against representatives of nationalities other than Russian including Armenians. The recent incident of that kind took place in Krasnoarmeysk, town situated near Moscow the other day. They in the Union of Armenians of Russia think such extremist actions “ruin the reputations of Russians, who have been got on with representatives of other nations peacefully for ages, and also make for weakening of the country in general”. As the head of the executive committee noted, Armenia is one of the strategic partners of Russia in Transcaucasia, so worsening the Armenian-Russian relations is not of Russia’s interest. At the same time, Gegam Khalatian noted that despite the increase of anti-Armenian attitude among Russian, “nothing threatens Russians in Armenia”.
