The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border first of all issues from interests of official Ankara. Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian expressed such an opinion in an interview to the Public TV Company of Armenia. In his words, such a method of putting pressure on Yerevan has exhausted itself. The minister explained his opinion that the 10-year blockade held by Turkey against Armenia did not do any good to Azerbaijan in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, and the Armenian economy did not suffer to the degree expected by Ankara. At the same time the minister doubted that upon the pressure by the international community Turkey would agree to open borders and establish diplomatic relations with Armenia.
