“BBC” WORLD RADIO SERVICE TO START BROADCASTING IN ARMENIA

“BBC” world radio service will start broadcasting in Armenia. Every day 9 a.m. local time, the “BBC” news in Russian will be broadcasted on “Impulse” radio. According to the “Impulse” radio producer Gurgen Khumarian, the information will have regional nature, that is to say, news concerning the events in the countries of the South Caucasus and Asia. Khumarian reported the right to broadcast “BBC” in Armenia has stipulated with the license given for a year. He noted the signing of intergovernmental agreement between Armenia and the Great Britain is possible, if it is necessary. In his turn, British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Timothy Jones has expressed satisfaction in connection with the beginning of the “BBC” broadcasting in Yerevan. “We attach special importance to the integration of the world radio service in the public life of Britain and other countries”, stated Jones. The Ambassador expressed regret at that the news would be broadcasted in Russian and not Armenian because of financial problems.
