Mkhitaryan says happy with his new role in Mourinho’s Roma

Minutes away from kick-off to Bologna-Roma, Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan spoke to DAZN and shared his thoughts on his new role within Jose Mourinho’s system, Roma Press reports.

“I like this new position a lot because I’m playing more with the ball at my feet. There is more space than when I play in front or as a winger.

“It’s normal because I need to help my mates, look for space and I’m having fun.”

Mkhitaryan described the partnership between Abraham and Zaniolo "unique, special".

"They understand each other very well. That’s what we need from them. They can both improve, both as a partnership and individually,” he said.

Mkhitaryan spent 18 months under Mourinho at United between 2016 and 2018 before leaving for Arsenal in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez after falling out of favour with the Portuguese boss. After struggling at Arsenal, the Armenian moved to Serie A with Roma where he has spent the last season-and-a-half and has now been joined by Mourinho after he was sacked by Tottenham in April.
