Turkey says would want Armenia meetings in Ankara and Yerevan

Turkey would like to hold meetings on the normalization of relations with Armenia in Ankara and Yerevan, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Thursday, February 10, Swissinfo reports. However, he said, talks are being arranged in third countries on the initiative of the Armenian side

"We appointed special representatives (for the normalization of relations – Ed.), who held a meeting in Moscow. And on February 24, another meeting will take place in Vienna. I would like us to be able to hold these meetings in Turkey or Armenia, but the Armenian side has chosen a third country, which is also good," Cavusoglu said in an interview with TRT.

Asked whether Azerbaijan, Turkey's ally, is upset with Ankara's efforts to normalize relations with Armenia, Cavusoglu maintained that Baku supports the process.

On Wednesday, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan expressed hope that substantive discussions would begin on the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border.

The envoys held their first meeting on January 14 Moscow, Russia, in what the Armenian Foreign Ministry described "a positive and constructive atmosphere". The next meeting of the special representatives in the normalization process will take place on February 24 in Vienna.
