Lawmaker from the opposition Armenia bloc Armen Grigoryan has urged the Council of Europe to condemn Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's ultranationalist gesture aimed a group of Armenians on the eve of the Genocide anniversary.
Cavusoglu made a particular gesture with his hands that is associated with the Turkish ultra-nationalist Gray Wolves movement, as his car drove past a group of Armenian protesters who were waiting for him at the exit of the newly-inaugurated Turkish embassy in Montevideo.
Grigoryan said Monday, April 25 that it was a "shock" to see Cavosuglu, who presided over the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for two years, to communicate with the descendants of Armenian Genocide victims "with the gestures of a Turkish nationalist terrorist organization".
"Such behavior must be unacceptable and condemned by the Council of Europe," Grigoryan told a PACE meeting. "I call on the Turkish representatives to work with the same diligence on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide."
