Dr. Nora Arissian has been appointed Syria’s ambassador to Armenia, according to a decree signed by President Bashar al-Assad.
Arissian holds a PhD in Modern History and has published several books, including about the Armenian Genocide. Her latest piece chronicles the lives of Syrian women parliamentarians between 1960 and 1985.
Syria has a sizeable Armenian community whose members are either of full or partial Armenian descent. Syria also served as a refuge for Armenians who fled the Armenian Genocide between 1915 and 1923.
