A 68-year-old citizen of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) who was one of the patients being transported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Armenia was detained by Azerbaijan and transferred from the checkpoint to another place on Saturday, July 29, Karabakh State Minister Gurgen Nersisyan reveals.
Nersisyan said the move comes amid “alleged” calls from the international community, uring Baku to at least respect the ICRC mission.
“At the moment, an ICRC representative is with our citizen, but the negotiations have not yielded any results yet, we are waiting for new information,” Nersisyan said.
“Other citizens who were being transported to Armenia on the same route and accompanied by the ICRC representative from the city of Goris were transferred to the Goris medical center, while the return of our citizens who were receiving treatment in Armenia to Artsakh was canceled.
“These are the consequences of the Armenian authorities' recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and calling Artsakh a part of Azerbaijan, the inadequate condemnation of the months-long crimes against the people of Artsakh and the lack of action by the international community, which must be prevented at any cost.”
