Macron says Azerbaijan has “a problem with international law”

French President Emmanuel Macron denounced Azerbaijan on Thursday, October 5 for taking military action in Nagorno-Karabakh, insisting that the French government’s position was correct even if Baku considered it biased in Armenia’s favor, Reuters reports.

“France has no problem with Azerbaijan but Azerbaijan seems to have a problem with international law,” Macron said.

He added sanctions against Azerbaijan would be conterproductive at this point.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to Macron’s statement about Baku’s occupation of 150 square kilometers of the territory of Armenia.

“Azerbaijan has not occupied the territory of any country and the assertion that the territories on which the forces of Azerbaijan are deployed on the not yet delimited border belong to Armenia is completely illogical,” the Ministry said.
