Yerevan has not recently participated in the work of the secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), but there have been no official statements about the suspension of Armenia’s membership in the organization, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said in an interview with TASS.
“Yerevan has indeed not recently participated in the work of the CSTO secretariat. This is Armenia’s decision at this stage, and we, as an international organization, respect any decision of a sovereign state,” TASS cited him saying on Tuesday, March 12.
“However, the organization’s activities continue, all procedures are observed in full accordance with the regulatory framework of the CSTO.
According to Tasmagambetov, the secretariat informs Armenia on a daily basis about decisions taken.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a recent interview with France 24 that Armenia has frozen its participation in the Russian-led bloc. Following the announcement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that Russia hopes to receive a response from Armenia regarding the fulfillment of obligations and participation in joint integration structures, including the CSTO, warning of consequences.
