Russia about decision to remove border guards from airport border guard service

Russia has received a notification from Armenia about the cessation of the work of Russian border guards at Zvartnots airport in Yerevan, contacts with Yerevan continue, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday, March 12, according to TASS.

“Indeed, a departmental letter was received in this regard and contacts are now being carried out through departments. I can’t say more now,” Peskov said, commenting on the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the work of the Russian border guards at the airport.

The Kremlin spokesman added: “Naturally, contacts at all possible levels will continue.”

On Tuesday, Pashinyan said that the country’s Border Guards have informed their Russian colleagues that the Armenian side can serve at Zvartnots airport without their assistance. Earlier, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan also noted that Yerevan had sent an official letter to Moscow to stop the activities of Russian border guards in Zvartnots.
