Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Matthew Miller has said the United States has made very clear that the path forward for resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is ultimately at the bargaining table.
“I don’t want to speak to any upcoming meetings, but we have always made clear that we welcome dialogue,” Miller said when asked about possible gatherings in Washington.
“When the Secretary has communicated with the leaders of both Armenia and Azerbaijan, he has made clear that there needs to be dialogue between the two parties. We are happy to play whatever we – role we can to facilitate that dialogue and will continue to do so, but I don’t want to preview any specific upcoming meetings.”
Miller, however, did not have an immediate response when asked about recent escalation on the border.
In recent days, Azerbaijan has been violating the ceasefire in a number of sections of the border and pinning the blame on the Armenian side.
