Аrmenian swimmer breaks national record in 100m freestyle

Armenian athletes continue to compete in various disciplines at the World University Summer Games underway in Germany, with support from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

In swimming, Varsenik Manucharyan set a new Armenian national record in the women’s 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.19 seconds. She also swam 1:01.35 in the 100-meter butterfly, placing 20th out of 43 participants. Fellow swimmer Ashot Chakhoyan finished the 100-meter freestyle in 54.66 seconds.

In rhythmic gymnastics, Julieta Avetisyan and Silva Sargsyan completed their events, scoring 78.350 and 83.700 points respectively.

In fencing, Daria Malysheva advanced to the round of 32 after winning four matches in the group stage. She defeated a Polish opponent 15:12 but lost 15:4 to an Italian fencer in the next round, missing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Taekwondo athletes Meliné Hovhannisyan (57 kg) and Davit Torosyan (68 kg) also wrapped up their competitions.

The Armenian delegation includes 18 athletes competing in seven sports. The delegation is led by Hovhannes Gabrielyan, president of the Armenian Student Sports Federation, with Sergey Abrahamyan from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport serving as secretary.

On July 21, taekwondo athlete Armen Danielyan (74 kg), long jumper Yana Sargsyan, and swimmer Ashot Chakhoyan (50m breaststroke) are scheduled to compete. The international competition runs through July 27.
