Putin-Trump talks agreed, details to follow

Russia and the United States have reached an agreement on a personal meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in the near future, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced.

"At the initiative of the American side, a preliminary agreement was reached to hold a bilateral meeting at the highest level in the coming days, that is, a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump," he said, according to RIA Novosti.

According to Ushakov, both parties have already begun preparations for the summit. The following week is being considered as a tentative timeframe, but it's too early to say how long the preparations will take. The location has already been agreed upon and will be announced later. He also noted that U.S. special envoy Stephen Witkoff recently raised the idea of a trilateral meeting including Vladimir Zelensky, but Moscow left the proposal without comment.

"We suggest focusing primarily on preparing the bilateral meeting with Trump and believe that the main goal is to ensure the meeting is successful and productive," Ushakov emphasized.

He added that the meeting between Putin and Witkoff was constructive, with discussions focused on further joint efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Russia has already informed its allies and partners about the meeting's outcomes.

Witkoff's visit to Moscow took place on Wednesday. President Putin received the American envoy at the Kremlin, and their conversation lasted more than three hours. This marks the diplomat's fifth visit to Russia since the beginning of the year.

Ushakov noted that through Witkoff, the two leaders exchanged messages concerning Ukraine and also discussed prospects for strengthening strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington.

Later, Donald Trump stated that the talks had been highly productive. He emphasized that significant progress was made during the meeting and added that in the coming days and weeks, he intends to work toward ending hostilities.
