Lukashenko: Belarus holds special value for Russia

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that Moscow will provide his country with the necessary support. He made the statement in an interview with the American magazine Time.

According to him, Minsk holds a unique place in Russia’s policy and history, News.ru reported.

“I know Belarus’s value for Russia. This is not Iran, not North Korea, and not Armenia… Iran is not worth two nuclear powers clashing. But Belarus is very much worth it. Ukraine is also not worth two nuclear powers clashing,” Lukashenko said.

He noted that Belarus’s significance for Russia stems from historical factors. Losing the country, he argued, would mean losing it as an integral part of Russia.

Earlier, Lukashenko called Russia the guarantor of Minsk’s security. He recalled that if Belarus and Russia had not endured in 2020, they would now have to face the entire NATO directly. The president also stressed that Moscow came to Belarus’s aid during a difficult period.
