Elina Avanesyan sets sights on Los Angeles Olympics

At a press conference in Yerevan, tennis player Elina Avanesyan spoke about her injuries and recent defeats at international tournaments, saying she will do everything possible to start 2026 at full strength and health. She also declared that her goal is to represent Armenia at the Olympics, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“I started 2025 very well, but then I got injured and in March I also caught a serious infection, with a long recovery period. I couldn’t compete at a high level. Later, I suffered from shoulder and wrist pain, and I’m still recovering,” she said.

She noted that participating in the Olympic Games is every athlete’s dream.

“I’m no exception. I’m eagerly waiting for it. My goal is to take part not only in the Los Angeles Olympic Games, but also in future Olympics,” Avanesyan added.

During her visit to Armenia, she organized masterclasses for children and met with fans, stressing how much their joy inspires her.

“I’m very happy to be back. Coming to Armenia feels like coming home, and I gladly take part in all events,” she said.

Vanane Ararktsyan, executive director of the Keron Development Foundation, said Elina Avanesyan continues to represent Armenia with dignity in international tournaments and assured that the foundation will keep supporting her.

According to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) weekly world rankings, Elina Avanesyan has dropped one position this week to 104th place.
