During a U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Steve Daines highlighted the geopolitical significance of the preliminary peace agreement signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing its impact on Central Asia.
Daines stated that while U.S. adversaries seek to undermine Washington’s expanding role in the region, the Armenia-Azerbaijan accord brokered with the involvement of President Donald Trump has the potential to reshape regional dynamics.
“This breakthrough peace agreement, preliminarily signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia with President Donald Trump’s participation, has substantial geopolitical consequences for Central Asia,” said Daines, as reported by 1lurer.am .
The senator added that the United States aims to move beyond the previous administration’s approach by focusing on real investments and deepening cooperation with Central Asian nations.
According to Daines, building strong partnerships with Central Asian countries is vital to strengthening U.S. national security and consolidating its influence in the region.
In Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and U.S. President Donald Trump officially agreed to launch the Trump Route.
“The corridor will allow Azerbaijan to access Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia is also establishing a unique partnership with the United States to develop this corridor. Its duration may be extended up to 99 years, with a promise to renew it for another 99 years after that. Major infrastructure developments are anticipated. American companies are eager to enter these countries and invest significantly, which will bring economic benefits to all three nations,” Trump stated.
