U.S. President Donald Trump, referring to the August 8 summit held in Washington with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, said it is "an honor to befriend great leaders Aliyev and Pashinyan." He shared this sentiment on the Truth Social platform.
“It is a great honor to help resolve the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and at the same time, to befriend these two great leaders and peoples—President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. For me, and more importantly for the United States, this will be an everlasting friendship,” Trump wrote.
He also posted a photo from the meeting.
On August 8, a trilateral meeting took place at the White House with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. A joint Declaration summarizing the results of the Washington talks was signed.
In the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
