EU commissioner pledges support for peace process

European Union Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, currently visiting Baku, announced that the EU is prepared to participate in the peace process in the South Caucasus.

She said that productive and open talks were held with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which issues of connectivity were also discussed, APA reported.

“Today in Baku we had effective and open discussions with President Ilham Aliyev. In particular, we exchanged views on connectivity issues. I also congratulated the president on the initialing of the peace agreement in Washington. The European Union supports sustainable peace in the region and is ready to participate in this process,” Kos said.

Marta Kos will pay a two-day visit to Armenia on September 19–20. She will meet with President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, and Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan. The program includes participation in signing ceremonies with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a visit to the “EU for Sevan” biodiversity project site, and a tour of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies.
