Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan lost his 97 kg quarterfinal bout against Azerbaijan’s Murad Akhmadiev at the Greco-Roman World Championships but could still contend for bronze.
According to Armenpress, Aleksanyan can enter the repechage if Akhmadiev reaches the final, giving him a chance to compete for a bronze medal. Earlier, Aleksanyan defeated China’s Zhegang Wang 5:1 to secure his place in the quarterfinals.
In other results, Hrachya Poghosyan (60 kg) earned a commanding 9:0 victory over Ukraine’s Vladislav Kuzko, advancing to the round of 16. His next opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Alisher Ganiev, U23 world champion and Asian silver medalist.
