In a message to participants of an international investment forum in Baku, President Ilham Aliyev declared that the Zangezur corridor will increase Azerbaijan’s strategic significance, Minval.az reported.
He noted that cargo volumes along the Middle Corridor have been growing year by year and are expected to rise further once the Zangezur route is operational.
“The modern infrastructure built in the republic — the Baku International Sea Trade Port, the Alat free economic zone, and the upgraded railway network — provides investors with direct access to global markets and efficient transit routes,” Aliyev said.
In Washington, Armenian, Azerbaijani, and U.S. leaders — Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump — reached an agreement on launching the Trump Route. Trump said the project would give Azerbaijan access to Nakhchivan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. He added that the U.S. and Armenia had agreed on development rights for up to 99 years, potentially renewable, with major U.S. investment expected in regional infrastructure.
On September 11, Pashinyan clarified that Armenia had not leased land for 99 years but had granted development rights to the American side.
