Aliyev: TRIPP to become key link of Middle Corridor

In a message to participants of the 6th Caspian Business Forum in New York, organized by the Caspian Policy Center, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said TRIPP will become one of the most important components of the Middle Corridor and guarantee unhindered transport between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, Minval.az reported.

“On August 8, in Washington, in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint declaration that laid the foundation for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). It will secure uninterrupted connectivity between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan,” Aliyev said.

He described TRIPP as a vital new link between Asia and Europe, with the potential to boost transit capacity, enhance regional development, and integrate countries into global supply chains. The project also envisions renewable energy exports and the construction of fiber-optic lines, turning the region into a hub for trade and digital communication.

Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan is fully committed to accelerating the project’s implementation, with ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure, digitalize systems, and increase capacity.

“Over the past three years, cargo volumes through the Middle Corridor via Azerbaijan have grown by nearly 90%, while transit times have shortened. By 2030, capacity will triple compared to 2021, and transport times will be cut in half,” he noted.

In Washington, leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S.—Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump—formally agreed to launch the TRIPP project. Trump described it as a route that would respect Armenia’s sovereignty while giving Azerbaijan access to Nakhchivan. He said U.S. companies were eager to invest heavily, expecting major economic benefits for all three countries. On September 11, Pashinyan clarified that Armenia granted construction rights, not land leases, for a 99-year term, with possible extensions.
