Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed the reason for the postponed visit of Elina Valtonen, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Finland’s Foreign Minister, to Baku.
According to the MFA’s press secretary, Ayhan Hajizade, Valtonen was originally scheduled to begin her South Caucasus tour from Azerbaijan on October 13. However, that same day, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was set to attend a Middle East peace summit, as reported by APA.
“This visit was planned for October 13. However, due to President Ilham Aliyev’s invitation to the Middle East peace summit and his participation with the delegation he leads, the visit was postponed. Work is currently underway to agree on a new date for the Finnish Foreign Minister’s visit to Azerbaijan,” Hajizade said.
On October 14, Valtonen met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan. She is scheduled to visit Georgia on October 15.
