U.S. diplomat: TRIPP to strengthen Black Sea region

Alan Purcell, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia, stated during a conference within the Black Sea Platform in Tbilisi that the TRIPP initiative — a U.S.-brokered transport and infrastructure corridor involving Armenia and Azerbaijan — is expected to significantly strengthen regional stability and development. His comments were reported by APA.

Purcell emphasized that TRIPP will enhance the Black Sea region’s strategic weight. He also highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor and reiterated Washington’s continued support for Georgia and the region through targeted investments. These include financing a new seaport in Poti and promoting Georgia’s transit potential among American investors.

In Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and former U.S. President Donald Trump reached a formal agreement on launching the Trump Route — or TRIPP. The route allows Azerbaijan access to Nakhchivan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. The project entails an exclusive partnership with the U.S. for infrastructure development, initially granted for up to 99 years, with a pledged renewal for another 99 years. Trump stated that major U.S. companies are eager to invest in the corridor, which promises mutual economic benefits for all three nations.

On September 11, Pashinyan clarified that Armenia granted the U.S. not land ownership but construction rights along the corridor.
